Photobooth 2×6 Strips added to DNP DSRX1 Photo Printer

DNP DSRX1 Photo PrinterDNP has released updated firmware and drivers which enable the DNP DSRX1 to print two – 2×6 strips on a 4×6 sheet – great for Photobooths!

If you own a DNP DSRX1 and would like to produce 2×6 strips follow this procedure. (If you don’t have one, we have plenty in stock!)

First, make sure you have firmware version 1.10 (or later) and driver version 1.1.0.0 or later. If not, you can download the new firmware and drivers here.

Once you have the new firmware and driver loaded, here is how to set up your DSRX1 to print two 2×6 strips:

Your title says it ‘prints” 2×6 but I can only get 2×6 *cuts* but no prints on a 2×6. It cuts a 4×6 image in half. Do i need special software to print 2×6 photo booth pics? I actually installed it exactly as DNP said to do in their instructional PDF. Please advise.

Is there a driver for DNP-DS40 to cut the strip to 2 x 6?

George. It should be 2-2×6 strips. It uses a full sheet of 4×6 no matter what.

Kelly. DNP does not have an option for 2-2×6 on the DS40. We do not know if one will ever be available.

FOr some reason my Dsrx1 prints darker than what the picture is…i dont know. THis is my first dye sub.

Ryan. The RX1 driver has an option for changing the density and color balance. Here is the blog post on making these adjustments on the DNP DS40 and DS80: http://imagingspectrum.com/blog/2011/07/adjusting-the-color-and-density-on-the-dnp-ds40-and-ds80/

Hi, I’ve tried to set up the firmware and driver. Following the instructions everything works perfectly until the last screen (shown above) where the 2inch cut option is not there. Also the link to the drivers is no longer working. Can you help? Thanks

Kate,
DNP has a new driver site that just went live (without them telling us). Sorry for the broken link. Here is the new one: http://www.dnpphoto.com/drivers/
Frequently the firmware and driver changes do not take full effect until after a restart. If a restart does not show the cut option call us at 800.342.9294.

Hi Kate,
Sorry to hear you are having trouble. I updated the link so you should be able to download the latest firmware and driver now. If you are still having trouble, give us a call and we can schedule a tech call for you.
Thanks

I’m looking to use the 2×6 strip cut from Linux, is there documentation or information on how to do this?

I have not seen or know anything about a Linux solution. You may want to contact DNP.

Is there any way of telling how many prints are left on the printer at all?

Paul, the same PrinterInfo program that works on the DS40 and DS80 also work on the RX1. Please follow my blog post here on how to download and install the program: http://imagingspectrum.com/blog/2011/04/dnp-ds-40-ds-80-print-counter/#comment-13954

Hey everyone,

I just spoke to DNP and they say that a 2×6 firmware update for the DS40 should be out during the first part of June.

It has been in Beta for a little while. We do not have a copy of it. One of the issues, similar to the UPDR200, is the strips do not always fall out the printer after cutting. DNP is working on a possible retrofit of the print exit. DNP had planned on an earlier release and the “first part of June” may still not be accurate. We will keep you informed, it will be on our blog, Facebook and website.

Are you aware of any other printers on the market that have the cut driver besides the Sony UPDR200 and the DNP DSRX1?

Also, there is one company still selling a few remaining models of the Sony UPDR200. Do you know how problematic this printer is for the strips not falling out of the printer after cutting? Have you heard of this problem with the DSRX1 as well or is this just something that is problematic with the yet-to-be-released DS40 driver?

Finally, for all of these machines, the “cut” is vertically, not horizontally, correct? I watched a video that made me think the cut was actually performed horizontally. This “cut” is only for media that is 4 X 6 inch, not any other media sizes, for example 6 X 8 would not cut at 3 X 8 inch, correct?

Thanks much!

Golds

The Shinko S2145, HiTi 510 and 720 series printers and the Mitsi 70 and 707 all cut 2-2×6 strips.
We have refurbed Sony UPDR200 printers for sale. Older DR200 printers had a longer lip where the paper came out and that is where the issue was. Sony came out with a replacement and the newer models had the shorter lip helping prevent the problem. We have a couple of those faceplates to retrofit older, problematic DR200 printers.
The DSRX1 was designed to cut the 2-2×6 strips so there are no problems with it. The issue with the DS40 is not the driver it is printer itself. It was not designed to do the cuts.
When a printer is designed to cut, it cuts 2-3.5×5 on 5×7, 2-2×6 on a 4×6 or 2-4×6 on a 6×8.
Hope that helps.

MY cut option is greyed out so I can not enable it, can you help me understand what the issue may be.

Either the Firmware upgrade did not take, or you did not restart your computer after loading the new driver, or you do not have it set for 4×6 or 6×4. I have seen all three cause it.
For the Firmware, make sure you Extract the Firmware, it downloads not extracted and looks ready to use (it is not). Make sure you load either the correct 32 or 64 bit version. There should be a PDF in the folder. With XP it may take a download to work, the instruction are also in the PDF. Hope that helps.
