3 Reasons Not to Rush out for Mountain Lion (or Win8)

Photo printer drivers and apple mountain lion os 10.8My three reasons not to rush out and buy the latest Apple or Microsoft operating system?

  1. Drivers
  2. Drivers
  3. DRIVERS!

Apple has released their latest OS called Mountain Lion 10.8. Please don’t rush out and buy it and expect your photo printers, cameras or software to work with it yet. For example, DNP has informed us that:

“The currently available DNP printer drivers for Mac OS are not supported by Mac OS 10.8. Attempting to install the current DNP driver on Mac OS 10.8 will result in the following message:

Unsupported OS Version

In the interim, until the updated drivers become available, it is recommended to avoid updating or installing to Mac OS 10.8 when using the DS40, DS80 or DSRX-1 photo printers. If this has already been done, the workaround is to downgrade or reinstall the OS with a previous supported OS version.”

Please note that legacy printers from Sony like the Sony UPDR200 will never have a stand alone 10.8 Mac driver written for it (just like 10.7, that’s why I still run 10.6). In a perfect world, the manufacturers would have their drivers updated and ready to go when the new OS is released, but that is simply not the case in the photographic print world, especially and unfortunately, on the Mac side.

The same goes for the soon to be released Windows Version 8. Stay tuned to our blog, facebook and website for the latest updates. And if you ever have any questions or need some help, feel free to contact us at 800-342-9294 or by email. Thanks!
