Photobooth 2×6 Strips added to DNP DSRX1 Photo Printer

DNP DSRX1 Photo PrinterDNP has released updated firmware and drivers which enable the DNP DSRX1 to print two – 2×6 strips on a 4×6 sheet – great for Photobooths!

If you own a DNP DSRX1 and would like to produce 2×6 strips follow this procedure. (If you don’t have one, we have plenty in stock!)

First, make sure you have firmware version 1.10 (or later) and driver version 1.1.0.0 or later. If not, you can download the new firmware and drivers here.

Once you have the new firmware and driver loaded, here is how to set up your DSRX1 to print two 2×6 strips:

  • Click on the DS-RX1 driver
  • Click on Printer in the top left corner
  • Scroll down and click on properties
  • In General tab click on Printing Preferences (In Windows 7 it is only called Preferences)
  • Under Layout Click Advanced (see screen shot below)

DNP DS-RX1 2x6 Photobooth strip printing

  • Set Paper Size to (PR (4×6)
  • Under Printer Features Go to 2 inch cut: and change to (Enable (Printer V1.10 or later)
  • Click OK, Apply, OK and OK again

You should now be in business. If you have any questions please feel free to email techsupport@imagingspectrum.com

Happy Printing!

Bill, I’m going to have to plead the fifth on whether or not I remove the media for transport But hypothetically, would one need to remove both the paper and ribbon, and if so what do you recommend so that it doesn’t become unraveled or creased. Thanks Again

    Paul,
Do you transport with media in the printer? It is not designed to do that.
Unload and reload the paper. Depending on the software, you can try correcting with bleed.

Hi, rencently I noticed a thin white strip at the bottom of my 2×6 prints (DNP RX1 printer). Then, on the middle of my last event, I noticed the white strip moved from the bottom to the top and some of the text on the very bottom of the strip was now being cut off. I assume it’s done sort of alignment issue with my media, but not completely sure how to fix. Thanks!

    Sharda,
Go into the RX1 driver and do a test print and make sure it fills the page. If it does, right click on an image and open in Windows Photo Viewer (WPV) and do a 4×6 photo. If it prints okay from WPV it is your software and you need to contact them. If it does not print correctly from the driver or WPV call and ask for a tech ticket. Whoever answers will look up your account and send it to the tech team.

Help! Will I have to change the setting on my printer if I wish to switch between 2*6 prints and 4*6 prints? I am not sure what the printer preferences should be after disabling the 2 inch cut, because I am getting some strange prints being generated after I have disabled. The images seem very small and were confined to a small area of the 4*6 paper. What is the default setting or how do I get the printer to reset to the default setting? I am using sparkbooth, windows 7.

I recently bought my printer. Received in December 2015. Does the printer come with the correct firmware or am I required to download same? From reading here the 2*6 Prints are generated from the photo booth software or can I print from paint or any other photo application?

All dyesub printers use an entire 4×6 ribbon when printing. Even the few dyesubs that can print 1-2×6, still use the entire 4×6 ribbon. The RX1 only does 2-2×6.

I get 2 copies of the strips (its using a full 4×6 cut in half. Which is great but I just want 1 copy (just a 2×6 stip). How do I set it up to print just 1 2×6 strip?

    Thanks

    Jacky,
Your software is the one that sends a 3.5×5 to the printer. In Photoshop or Darkroom you can have it set up to print a 3.5×5 on 4×6.
However, there is no way to cut it.

    Hi,

Can I use the paper of 4×6 to print size of 3.5×5? will the printer cut the photo?

    Thanks,

Does it not cut from test print in the driver or from software or both? If software, which software?

All dyesubs printers when using 4×6 media will always use the entire 4×6 ribbon since there is no way to rewind them on 2×6. The Sinfonia S2145, CS2 and Brava 21 are the only printers that can print 1-2×6, but you will waste half of the ribbon and half of the paper. None of the dyesub manufacturers have any plans of ever having their printers print 1-2×6 and rewinding the media to print the other side.
Plan on always offering 2-2×6 or 1-4×6.

    Hello Techs,
The DNP RX1 is great but If i had known the RX1 did not cut single 2×6 strips i wouldn’t of bought it. Any idea when DNP might get updated software to cut a single 2×6 strip for the RX1? If its not in the works can you recommend a printer that does cut a single 2×6 strip?

Send an email to techsupport @ imagingspectrum.com with a screen shot of the message. Was it working and stopped working? What OS? Sounds like possibly a driver error.

Hi there! I desperately need someone’s help! My RX1 will not allow me to select paper sizes on the printer, it’s only giving me the option to “scale to” differenet sizes!
    I need this TOMORROW!!
Please, I’ll pay for someone to call me/message me and walk me through a solution!
    Thank you!

    Steve,
The RX1 cannot print 1-2×6, and even if it could it would use the whole 4×6 ribbon, since it cannot wind the ribbon back.

Is there any way to print out a single 2×6 cut? We currently have to set the amount of prints before an event. We would like if the customer picks out the amount of strips, but they don’t realize that it prints out 2x the amount. So for 4 people, they’ll pick 4 copies and it’ll print out 8 strips. To save paper, we remain in control of the printing count. If I knew how to print a single strip, I could give this option back to them. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I don’t think I’ve ever left a comment on one of these forums before, but this small piece of knowledge which may be useful to some out there.

If your cuts aren’t aligning properly chances are you made the same mistake i did.

When feeding the paper in make sure it goes over the circular rod not under, ie feed into the printer closest to the arrow.

This accounts for the 1-2mm discrepency, causing the misalignment.

Bill, Thanks so much, that is what I thought might have happened. I downloaded the driver and tried to reinstall it, but I keep getting an error. I think it has something to do with the .CMD file and windows 8 not recognizing it. Have you seen this type of error before?

    January 31, 2015 - 7:53 pm

    Matt,
If you have Windows 8 or 8.1 your computer has updated the OS and crashed that part of the driver. Unplug your printer and try to reinstall the driver. Replug the printer and Enable cut and see if that helps. You may need to call ISI tech on Monday if you need more help.

I have been using the DNP RX1 for several years and love it. Last night, mid event the printer stopped making the 2×6 cut and would only make the 4×6 cut. I followed the directions as shown in the 2×6 setup above, but the ‘Enable (PrinterV1.10 or later)’ will not take. Every time I change it, the printer preferences defaults back to ‘Disabled’ and continues to make the 4×6 prints instead of the 2×6 prints.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

The 4×6 media for all dyesub printers are all 4 panels of 4×6, 3 color and 1 clear coat. Even the 3 printers that can print 1-2×6 still use the entire 4-4×6 ribbon panels. They cannot wind back and do the other 2×6, so you are wasting 1/2 your ribbon and leaving half your paper on the spool and you are not saving any money.

Using DNP DS-RX1 printer for photo booth with social booth software. When trying to cut (2) 2×6 from a 4×8 the cut does not line up with the design. one side is further over then the other side. What do I need to do to fix this?

    September 9, 2014 - 11:05 am

Travis, DNP Hot Folder only prints to full size prints, 4×6, 5×7, etc. You will need Photobooth software for 2-2×6.

Nicolas, All RX1 printers shipped for the last 2.5 years have had the newest and correct Firmware. There should not be an upgrade needed. But, you can only do it with a Windows machine, the firmware installer only runs on Windows.

It sounds like a setting in the software. If you print a file from outside the DSLR Remote does it print ok? Feel free to call us at 1 800 342-9294 and set up a tech ticket for a technician to call you back.

I Have 3 of these printers, I LOVE THEM…however all of a sudden my computer is printing with a margin on the 4″ sides of a 4×6 page…the margin covers the image (doesn’t crop it). I have hooked this computer up to a different printer and it prints the same…and the same is true with the printer…I have attached it to a different computer and it prints fine. I am running Windows 7 and DLSR Pro…I am completely STUMPED as to how to remove this margin…It has worked like a charm going in its 3rd year, this is a sudden issue….anyone else encounter this? Any ideas how to fix???

If you create 2 different profiles in Breeze they can be linked to 2 different .xml files that will have the desired cut options. Please see http://www.breezesys.com for more details.

is there a way to print 2 2×6 and go back to 4×6 using breezesys softwares without changing the printer settings?

  42. Craig

    June 9, 2014 - 9:10 pm

I have DNP-rx1. Using breeze and windows 7. Setup is fine but when the booth sits unused for awhile at an event the printer switches default. Is there a built in timer for printer or any ideas why this is happening? A copy of the settings is created under the windows 7 devices and printers menu. Once I set that to default it works fine as the other settings are not active. After a restart/reboot everything is back to normal except the default printer setting, once I change again it’s back to original settings.

Has happened at almost every event. Any ideas?

    Mila,
Do you have a DS40 or RX1? These directions are for the RX1. Follow these directions for the DS40 and please notice there is not a PR4x6 on the DS40: https://imagingspectrum.com/blog/2012/07/dnp-ds40-offers-photobooth-2×6-cuts/
I am a little confused about which printer but also a 4×6 cut in half is 2-2×6 strips. If you are referring to 4×6 x2 that is a 6×8 cut in half and will error out the printer.

Hi, I ve bought a dnp ds40, working with windows 8, and I cant get the printer to make 6×2 strips. The only thing I get, is a 4×6 cut in half. I dont have the pr(4×6) option at all. Hope somebody can help me out. Thanks.

    Elkin,
What size media is in your printer? What OS are you using? What media size is set in the driver? What software are you printing from?
The usual one is people wanting to print 2-2×6 but they set the driver for PR(4×6)x2 which is a 6×8 cut in half and not a 4×6 cut in half.

Hi guys, I recently purchased an RX1 and I’m running the 4×6 media, for some reason I keep on getting this “incompatible media size” message when I hit the print button…what I’m I doing wrong!!??…I’ve set the image to the correct dimensions and all, but still can’t work around it.

  49. Bill Vahrenkamp

    June 13, 2013 - 10:00 am

@Mark, yes the (4×6)x2 and (6×4)x2 option is a 6×8 cut in half, 2-4×6. You can also set it for (6×8) and enable the 2 inch cut and it will cut 4-2×6. These same options apply to the DS40.
