Take a Look at the Fujifilm ASK-300 Printer

A favorite part of my job is trying out and testing new equipment. Having shot Fujifilm since the 70’s, I am always curious about new Fujifilm products. Although the Fujifilm ASK-300 dye sublimation printer has been in Asia and Europe for a little while, it is new to the US. Here is an overview video and below it is more info from me.

The ASK-300 is based on the Mitsubishi CP-D80DW so the look is similar. It can print in about 12.3 seconds and can cut 4x6 into 2-2x6 strips and print 4x6, 5x7, and 6x8 on the respective, different media. Media size per roll is:
  • 4x6: 400
  • 5x7: 230
  • 6x8: 200
Cost per sheet:
  • 2-2x6 or 4x6: 12¢
  • 5x7: 43¢
  • 6x8: 32¢
Like all other dye-subs in the US, the ASK-300 cannot print a single 2x6. It will use the whole 4x6, no matter what. The ASK-300 has a matte finish option in the driver. The printer is connected via a standard USB A-B 2.0 printer cable. Weight is 26 lbs and the dimensions are: 10.8” x 17.6” x 6.7”. One interesting thing about the ASK-300 is that it has drivers for Windows XP and Vista. The XP and Vista driver cannot cut the 2-2x6 strips. There are also drivers for Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10, in both 32-bit and 64-bit options. The current installer does not run on its own, you should follow instructions for the driver fix workaround on your dye sub printer. The ASK-300 also has Macintosh drivers for 10.5, 10.6, 10.7 OS. The current in stock Fujifilm ASK-300 may not have the correct Firmware loaded in the printer or the correct driver CD for the 2-2x6 cut.
