Earlier this month, panic spread through the inkjet printing community with whispers and rumors of discontinued Ilford papers. I wanted to take a moment and share the information we have with you, our devoted (and worried) customers.
Ilford has reorganized, repackaged and renamed most of their iconic paper line into two separate categories: the Prestige category and the Premium category. Most of your old favorites are still here – Gold Fibre Silk, Smooth Pearl, etc – but they have been renamed and reintroduced under the new Prestige line of products. The Prestige product line is marketed towards professional photographers and artists and is considered Ilford’s new “5 star” product. These papers are slightly heavier in weight than they were in the past and will be offered in expanded sizes.
Ilford has also introduced a Premium line. These papers are lighter in weight (270 gsm) than the Prestige line and thus geared more for the student, amateur or hobbyist photographer and are available in Premium Gloss or Premium Lustre. They are a more cost efficient way to get some of the great quality paper Ilford is known for, but at a price that won’t break the bank.
