Sony UPCR10L SnapLab Firmware Update.
Update: Sony has posted firmware v3.5 online here.
The Digital Photofinishing Group at Sony has just released new firmware for the Sony UPCR10L SnapLab printer. The new firmware, version 3.5, enables the SnapLab to print with Sony’s patented ProMatte finish and to print on 4×8 media. The ProMatte finish gives the prints a luster or E-surface finish that customers and photographers really like. Many have remarked that the ProMatte finish makes the prints seem more like what you would get from a high-end photo lab. The other big feature is the ability to print onto 4×8 paper (2UPCC48PF) so that you can offer greeting cards and items like 8 passport sized photos on one sheet. With the new page size, Sony also released 12 new border designs and 2 split image designs. Eight of the new borders are for Holiday Greeting cards and the other 4 are “all occasion” 4×8 borders (see images below).
How do I upgrade my printer?
The firmware and new borders will be posted soon (we hope) to Sony’s website. In the meantime, you can contact us and we can send the firmware to you via email (7.5mb) or mail you a CD that contains the borders and firmware (the borders are 200mb). To upgrade your printer, you must be able to connect your SnapLab to a Windows based computer. The upgrade process simply involves double clicking on the firmware executable file and hitting accept once or twice. One note of caution, though, when updating firmware for any device, never unplug or turn it off during the process.
